mountains, finally!

so in something less than three hours or so im going to get up and drive down to santa fe, to the trailhead for either the windsor trail (go around the back side of lake peak) or the other trail that doesnt seem to have a name and goes straight up the ski slopes at the santa fe ski area–which we’ll hopefully find–and climb lake peak (12,409) with dave and marlon and sam and some other people i think i met but dont really remember. it’s in the pecos wilderness. contact besides my cell phone that will hopefully and probably never ever be needed:

Pecos Ranger Station
P.O. Drawer 429
Pecos, NM 87552
(505) 757-6121

and then if i can convince dave and marlon to spend the night up at twining, this carson national forest campground outside taos, we’ll get up really early on sunday, like 3am, and climb wheeler peak (13,161). or if we don’t camp, we’ll just leave REAL early sunday morning to drive up there. anyways, we’ll probably go up the bull of the mountain trail, and then consider descending williams lake trail but if we don’t feel like a 2000 foot drop in less than a mile, we’ll just go back down bull of the mountain. it’s in the carson national forest and/or wheeler peak wilderness, so, again, hopefully and probably nobody will ever need this:

Forest Supervisor
Carson National Forest
208 Cruz Alta Road
Taos, NM 87571
(505)758-6200 (Voice)
(505)758-6329 (TTY)

so, yeah, thats the plan for the weekend! we should be back by late sunday night. and if the camera holds up, there’ll be some pictures of the saga up here real soon after that…
